Commercial detergent is loaded with chemicals like sulfates, fragrances, dyes and more. Many brands contain things like petroleum distillates, which are linked to cancer and lung disease. Fragrances in these detergents are made with a mix of harmful chemicals.
Soap Nuts are a brilliant, natural alternative to chemical soaps and cleaners. Not only that, soap nuts also have the added benefit of being gentle for people with allergies or sensitivities to cleansers or detergents! The soap nut shells naturally produce saponin when introduced with water, creating a gentle lather with cleansing properties.
Soap Nuts can also be used to make liquid cleaner, to clean dishes, and even in shampoo and face/body wash!!
To use, put 4-6 Soap Nuts in a muslin bag and place in washer. Wash as usual with cold, warm or hot water. After washing, remove bag and let dry. Dry clothes as usual. Soap Nuts may be re-used several times until the shells start to become soft and grey, and then they should be composted. Soapnuts can be used for up to 10 washes!
Follow up with wool dryer balls instead of conventional dryer sheets, and you’ll have truly natural clean laundry in no time!
To use for face or body use 8-10 soap nuts to 4 cups of water, boil for 20 minutes. Add 1 more cup and reduce for 10 minutes. Then strain, let cool (We like room temp), mix 1/2 - 1 teaspoon of guar gum to thicken. Add essential oils as desired.
